Equus 3130 Everything that I had hoped for

Very good piece of equipment, anything less than this level of features would have left me dissapointed as the more I use it the more I appreciate what it has.

Equus 3130 Saved me money,

The product is exactly as advertised, with a feature set vs. cost that is very competitive. If you are handy enough to do routine repairs on your own vehicles, this is what you need. It has already saved me more in shop costs than what I paid for unit - I own 3 vehicles so this has been a great diagnostic tool to have. you friends will be glad to help you use it as well.

Equus 3130 The complete system

This worked great. Pulled the code off the car told me exactly what was wrong and for a fee told me what I needed to replace to fix the problem. No more light and my car is running much better.

Equus 3130 Works Great

I have had the scanner only a month. Have not had a problem yet on my two cars. But I tryed in on my 03 Chev. Trailblazer, & 07 Toyota Camry. And it seemed to work great. It gave me all the information that I was use to getting on my Tech 1 Scanner. I am a retired Chevrolet mechanic. And have a lot of experiance using a Tech 1 Scanner on older Chevrolets. I bought this Scanner because my Tech 1 is out dated now, after I sold my older Chevrolets.

Equus 3130 EXCELLENT OBD II

EXCELLENT OBD II. COULD NOT SMOG MY 2002 CAMRY CAUSE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. MECHANIC WANTED $100 JUST TO DIAGNOSE AND ANOTHER $500 TO REPAIR FAULTY SMOG CONDENSOR IN THE BACK OF THE CAR NEAR THE GAS TANK. APPEARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA CAMRYS. RESET ENGINE LIGHT WITH EQUUS 3130 EASILY. SMOGGED WITHOUT DIFFICULTY.

WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND. SHOULD MAKE ONE WITH USB CONNECTOR THOUGH.

Equus 3130 Good product

I used it right away with no issues. Internet upgrade was straightforward and added extended codes for more imports. The live data may not be necessary but is there if needed. I am happy with it as a toy and a tool.

Equus 3130 convenient

I know you can just go to an auto parts store but my vehicle was out of inspection and I didn't want to risk it. This let me know that my O2 sensors were working and that it was now ready to pass inspection. It gives you a heads up before you bring it to the pirate/mechanic.

Equus 3130 Does everything I expected it to do

So far I've used this scan tool to identify and fix an EGR problem on my 1998 Saturn and to check system monitors on my 97 Venture. In both cases it worked as advertised and was very helpful. If you just want to be able to read codes, this is overkill, but if you would like to see live sensor data, this scanner is probably the best value for the money that I know of.

Equus 3130 Innova review

It linked up quickly and gave me the codes that AutoZone didn't. Helps out when you would rather avoid a dealer or local garage. Identified the area I need to troubleshoot. I cleared the codes easily to verify there was a problem and sure enough the Check Engine light came back on...the next day. Best Price I could find and it is a quality scanner.

Equus 3130 Perfect tool for beginning auto DIYer

I'm learning how to work on my 98 Volvo s70 so I can afford to keep it and this tool has been indispensable for my trouble shooting for the following reasons:
1) Defines the code for you, this means you aren't always looking at a book or website to figure out what's up.
2) Backlit. If you find yourself out occasionally at night checking vacuum lines and other minor things, the fact you can read the screen is helpful.
3) Reads "pending" codes that have yet to register as a check engine light. This means you see a problem before it becomes urgent. The live data will help some on this issue as well, but I'm still figuring out where my vehicle should be. I have been impressed with the amount of live data I get on the machine given that I have a European car.
All in all, if you're fixing your own car you have enough stress on you without going back and forth from autozone to get codes read or having to look up new and mysterious codes. This is a great tool for a beginnine DIYer like me.

Equus 3130 Great price and performs

I bought this product because 2 Autozones couldn't read my error code with their Actron scanner. I hooked it up and it worked perfectly. Changed the O2 sensor and watched the screen for a couple of days until it had passed all tests. My vehicle passed the emissions test. Same with my son's vehicle. The unit is easy to read and understand. Software comes with it but I haven't tried it yet. This unit is a good buy.

Equus 3130 Good, robust tool

The tool is excellent and provides all the functionality to identify and diagnose a problem. It reads all error codes and interprets even manufacturer specific codes, after minimal navigation.

I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs such a tool.

Equus 3130 Great Code Scanner

Equus 3130 Equus 3130 Innova Diagnostic Code Scanner with Live, Record and Playback Data Capability for OBDII Vehicles

Outstanding item. I have a 1997 Chevy that I started after not using for a few weeks. It felt like it sputtered when starting (which I felt was a misfire)and the engine light came on! In the past when something simple like this happened on my other vehicles, it would always cost me $60 - $90 to have it cleared.
This time I searched the internet and found this. It arrived yesterday. I spent 30 minutes skimming the owners manual. Then when I connected it to the car, it took less than 10 seconds to diagnose and I cleared the code within a minute. I paid $135 and have already saved a $90 shop fee.
This item is very user freindly and is updateable via the internet to upgrade the "ABS" feature.
I'm completely satisfied!

Equus 3130 Great addition to an amateur's toolbox!

This is my first scanner. I've been a backyard mechanic for 20 years. Mainly replacing brake pads, radios & other little stuff. My diesel excursion just went out of warranty and of course the check engine light came on. Plugged this thing in, it came up with code & brief description instantly. It also showed all the parameters when the fault occurred. With the software included I quickly found the full description of the fault. Then I went on the internet and found a fairly easy technical service bulletin to fix the problem. When I'm done I'll easily be able to clear the code. Great addition to my toolbox! The version I received gives an upgrade for ABS check. I'm sure I'll need that too someday.

Equus 3130 Money Saver!

The Innova Diagnostic Scanner was money well spent. I had taken my truck to two separate garages to have the "check engine light" diagnosed. The truck has 147,000 miles on it, and both places told me I had to replace the catalytic converter! I was prepared to spend about $800 to replace it but decided to buy the Innova and see what was going on. The Live Data mode allowed me to see that the rear O2 sensor voltage was not fluctuating at all, identifying it as faulty. I was able to buy a new one and install it myself for $125!!! The tool is easy to use, easy to read, and very easy to understand, and I would recommend it for anyone who doesn't like paying high labor prices for repairs. I am not a mechanic, but do have tools and some common sense. It paid for itself with the first use!

Equus 3130 Saved its cost, first time I used it

In Chicago some car dealers charge $99.99 to read your codes before they repair your car (check engine light) I used this and after I found out what the code meant I took the car to someone to fix just the oxygen sensor. Savings, about $150.00. I travel around the country a lot, this device will go a long way toward keeping me from getting ripped off from auto mechanics.

Equus 3130 Best Price

Works perfectly. The computer printout is nice and shows extra info about the system. I did not need a database update but I am glad it is there for the future. I used this on my truck and on two at work and like this device.

Equus 3130 full featured scan tool for the money

I have been looking for months for the right obd2/can scanner with all the features the Eguus 3130 has. All the other companies models go for 500.000 plus. The 3130 has a large screen, live data and the emmission monitor status display. Just to name a few options. I am pleased with this product. I would recamend this product to anyone and even to professionals who need a obd2/can scanner.

Equus 3130 Top 'O the list for value !

The most for the money for this type of OBDII CAN diagnostic tool. VERY well constructed, the information secured equal to testers costing MUCH more. Rivals the "professional" (read VERY expensive) testing equipment. Equus has superb tech support to boot.

Equus 3130 Exceptional

I have an Isuzu Axiom, gone to many shops who did not have the proper software. This machine read everything possible on the car. It did a job that machines costing hundreds or even thousands more can't do.

Equus 3130 Great Product!

This is a great tool to add to any home garage. This is one of their upper end models but it has allowed me to effectively diagnose a problem clear the code and check to ensure the emission system reset. Highly recommended...

Reviews Equus 3130 Works as advertised

I am glad I decided to get this code reader. Even though the problem I have been having on my '99 Maxima did not display a "check engine" light, the reader picked up a code which related to changing my knock sensor. I also like the fact that it has live reading capabilities. Worth the investment for me.

Equus 3130 Best Reader for your $

For less than $200 you get a reader with a large backlit screen and one that can also give a live data feed from your car's sensors. It also supports CAN (controller area network) which by 2008 will be a new standard, a standard that Ford and foreign auto makers have already adopted. Did I mention it also comes with a serial cord to connect to your PC? This is a very fun DIY toy you'll enjoy for years.

Equus 3130 Excellent Diagnostic Device

I plugged this scanner into my Suburban to help me understand why the "check engine" light was on and in seconds it told me that the EGR valve circuit was giving a fault indication. I followed the procedure in the service manual and quickly determined it to be a bad EGR valve. Replacement took minutes. Entire job was over and done with in about 30 minutes counting the time it took to drive to the autoparts store and return. What a timesaver and in the longerun a hughe money saver too!!

Equus 3130 Proffessional Scan Tool that is Easy to use

This Scan Tool includes CAN diagnostics, works on all 1996 and newer cars and gives Diagnostic faults codes, Live Data values, Freeze frame information and also records and logs data. A vehicle diagnostic report is able to be printed with the software that is included. This software also allows each of the recorded files to be uploaded and graphed on your computer. The Red, Yellow and Green lights on the tool quickly indicate whether or not an OBD2 vehicle is ready for an OBD2 Emissions test. This tool will save you time in diagnosing vehicles quickly.

Equus 3130 Great Tool

Very good product. Small, light weight, easy to use unit. We were having difficulty reading codes on a Dodge SRT supercharged truck and this unit out performed a commercial unit that notably was several years old but had recently been software up dated (to the tune of over $1,000). We're planning to try the data log function next time at the track. I highly recommend this unit to commercial and drive way mechanics.

Equus 3130 OBDII Code Reader and Scanner

I am a DIY person and have done most maintenance and repairs on my vehicles for over 30 years. I had gotten tired of being charged $30-40 per event for reading and clearing Misc codes from my newer vehicles. Sometimes to have the shop tell me it was nothing but a temp misfire, fuel pressure fluxuation, etc... I read product reviews by others on this site and made my purchase. It is exactly what I had in mind and I should have it paid for in 3-4 events. I think the basic code reader could suit most people and give you some peace of mind and opportunities to avoid some shop OH costs. But I paid a little more for the ability to see real time data, to keep an eye on suspect O2 sensors etc...Anyone that knows a little about vehicles can benefit from this tool and there is plenty of educational info on the internet to bring you up to speed. This tool is very easy to use.

Equus 3130 Best bang for the buck

This scanner has amazing abilities considering the price. It has communicated with all OBD2 and Can Bus vehicles I have tried it on. I work at a dealership and use this scanner frequently. It is super fast at retrieving and clearing dtc's which is important when you work in the industry. It provides freeze frame for all codes that support freeze frame. It has many pids to display on the live data function, and the live data is relatively fast. I use this for everything from reading and clearing dtc's to making sure the ect pid stays steady when bleeding a cooling system to prevent overheating. My coworkers often ask to borrow it from me because it is so quick and easy to use compared with the factory scan tool we have. I have owned it for almost a year and have not had any issues with it.

Equus 3130 Diagnostic Code Scanner

This is a fantastic product. I have used it many times on my personal vehicles as well as friends and family cars, its more than paid for its self. The live data and record feature is very handy only if you know what your looking for. Most people who just want a code reader could bypass this and get the next model down without any loss of function. I found the users manual easy to read and understand. The scanner and included hardware are all of good quality, a case is a must to protect it. Anybody who has a 96 and newer vehicle should invest in a Equus code scanner.

Equus 3130 great code scanner

hey guys, im a gm technician and i got this scanner to keep in my tool box for when other makes of cars come in and i've now used it on 3 different vehicles and ive gotta tell you, this is probably the best scan tool i've used with the exception of professional grade tools from snap-on or mac that can cost 10 thousand or more. this is definately the right choice for anyone who needs a good tool for pulling codes.

im not sure how well it can read into the CAN systems to pull codes from various modules (such as transfer case control modules and things of that nature), but thats only because i havnt had a chance to try it on one with a known issue yet. as for the PCM, it's got a great library of codes, and the live data is something you typically dont see on tools like this. the live data info available for viewing varies but for most vehicles it includes the basics like throttle position, engine load, short term and long term fuel trim, mass air flow readings, and even oxygen sensor readings. this does not show extremely detailed pcm data, but for the weekend mechanic or anyone who needs a code puller or secondary scan tool, this is it. if youre looking for a hand held, you found the perfect match right here.

Equus 3130 Great OBD-II scanner/diag tool.

I originally ordered the Equus 3110, which is a great tool. I realized that the 3110 wasn't what I needed because it doesn't have the live data display or back lighting (I should have read further).
I ordered the 3130 yesterday and recieved it today. Let me tell you, this is a fantastic tool, especially considering the price. The back light feature is great for my old eyes. The "live data" display and record is wonderful for trouble shooting.
The included software is more than adequate. Remember, you are buying hardware. This is not meant to run your garage on. I say you can't go wrong with this gear.

Equus 3130 Scanner

I am happy with this purchase! I don't like the fact that the unit does not have a USB port for hook up to the computer (you have to by a Serial to USB adapter). But the scanner works well. I tried it on a 96 corvette and a 2008 Acura. It found a code in the Acura (honda specific code that was easy to find on the software that came with the scanner). I was able to clear this code and it has not come back yet (500 miles later)!
The Evap. test and O2 tests don't seem to run or are not supported on these vehicles.
But overall it was a good product that seems to be built well!
I wish it would do ABS testing and possibly Body Control module tests but it would probably raise the price of the unit.

Equus 3130 can use whether MIL is on or off

The reader works as advertised on the website [...]. The unit is easy to use, and the backlit display is bright when the unit is connected to the DLC. Provides info on the operating condition of your vehicle even if the check engine light is not lit. I use it to monitor the operating temperature of the vehicle, and the live data capture comes in very handy.

Saturday, September 26, 2009

Equus 3130 Code reader

When I purchased the reader I was a bit skeptical as to whether it was going to help me find why my engine light came on. The unit is easy to hoopk up to the car and use. It gave me the error code and brief description of what the code meant. This allowed me to find my problem (a loose gas cap--Man these cars are sensitive these days!) and clear the code turning off the engine light.

Something to keep in mind with this or any other code reader and that is the code reader doesn't alway tell you exactly the problem with your car but can get you close. Having some knowledge of automotive systems (including the car's shop manual) is definitely helpful.

Equus 3130 Works fine

Since I have been a tech for 38 years I have an edge,I have used many scan-tools of different makes.
This scan-tool is simple to use,it doesn't support diagnoses of codes but displays all needed codes to repair a problem. You will need a service manual to properly diagnose fault codes.
I like it as it gives important data to properly see componants at their actual values and when you make needed repairs you can see the repaired/replaced componant read proper values.

Equus 3130 excellent product

This scanner is excellent. It works on every car I have plugged it into. It is very easy to use and response time is faster than the big expensive ones. Sometimes though it will show pending codes as stored codes when the check engine light is not on. Every thing else is great just wish it read abs codes a great buy for the money. The exact same scanner in the store is double.

Equus 3130 Scanner

The scanner worked as promised .The only thing was I had no place to plug the scanner in on my computer. To solve the problem I bought an adapter plug from the nine pin on the scanner wire to a USB which I can plug into the computer.I'm still working on getting past just reading error codes and clearing the check engine light.

Equus 3130 Very cool

This is a very nice tool. I find that I can use it easiy for the most common tasks and that's the main thing I care about.

Some of the more advanced features are not so intuitive and I'm one of those dumb customers who thinks it should be. I think the best-designed tools include an owner's manual for reference sake, but the tool should have an easy enough interface that I don't need to pull out a book with my dirty hands.

I think they tried to save the cost of a couple of buttons by giving some of them double or tripple duty and thus making it so you need a manual to know how to get where. I still like my new tool a lot, though. It does everything it says it'll do, but don't lose the manual!

Monday, September 21, 2009

Equus 3130 Good Code Scanner- Gotta Read the Manual!

Very good and capable scanner for the money. Keep in mind that this scanner best interacts with GM Ford/Mazda and Chrysler vehicles. What does that mean? It means manufacturer-specific codes, not just generic ones. Real time data and enhanced code reading is also a benefit of the manufacturer specific feature.

The use of the buttons/navigation with the scanner isn't the most intuitive, so you must read the manual to ensure you take advantage of the scanner's abilities.

I would buy it again, but I will admit i'm disappointed that the product information from Equus/Innova doesn't specifically tell you that GM, Ford/Mazda and Chrysler reap the most benefits from the tool. I also own a BMW, so i'm disappointed I can't use the tool for all codes/diagnostics associated with the BMW.

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Equus 3130 Pleased

very informative,practical well worth it
only disappointment is that live data is not sent directly sent to my laptop but rather a recording from the scanner replayed on my laptop through the software.

Equus 3130 Seems to do the job well.

I haven't used it much since I got it, but I did manage to try all the features of this 3130 scanner and the few things I didn't like were: (1) The limited flash memory probably doesn't have much capacity because when I tried to obtain an upgrade file, there were two choices. You either get one version that gives some firmware update, or you choose the other version that gives you a firmware update plus extra database trouble code info for maybe 25-30 more vehicles, but at the expense of losing the mulilingual functionality. The upgrade site also didn't mention if you can downgrade back if you didn't like whichever version you picked, so I didn't take that risk and chose the version that just gives an update to the firmware. (2) The scanner can save your retrieved codes to memory and then you can print or export a report via the OBD PC-Link software. You can also print some graphs with the software version that I have (version 1.32). I have heard others say graphs were not possible, so maybe they had older versions. Anyway, my complaint is you cannot save the raw data so you can open with the software again for later analysis. You can only export the main data to text file report or print the graphs. (3) Tech support never got back to me about my question regarding capturing live data. I'm still not clear on the three trigger points of capturing the data (such as what exactly do they mean by setting a manual trigger in the beginning versus middle or the end depending on when the ENTER/LD button was pressed?).

However, I really liked the ability to capture live data. Though I didn't have any issues with my car, I can see how a lot of the live data info can help with diagnosing a potential problem with the car. You can see the numbers updating (such as engine rpm or short term fuel trim, etc.) which seems like once every second.

Overall, I can see this being a useful tool and gets the main job done. However, due to the minor annoyances with the updateability and the reporting features, I would have to deduct one star.

Equus 3130 Reviews

Amazon.com
The Equus 3130 Innova ScanTool CanOBD II Diagnostic Code Scanner is an enhanced scan tool that is loaded with many professional features. If you are new to diagnostic scanners, this handy tool connects to your vehicle, scans various parts of your car, truck or SUV, and retrieves a list of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and code definitions from your vehicle's computer. But even if you're a veteran to scanners and auto repair, you'll be impressed with the new functionality that Equus has added to the 3130. This device not only scans your vehicle, it also allows you to freeze-frame live timing and pinpoint your vehicle's problem. Instead of having to recreate a scenario over and over again, you can now playback the timing to scrutinize all the data and make a clear diagnosis. Combine this with Internet connectivity and the ability to interface with a PC, and you have a powerful, professional diagnostic scanner in the palm of your hand.

The 3130 Innova ScanTool CanOBD II easily scans and retrieves DTCs. View larger.
As government agencies establish more stringent emission laws, vehicles continue to become more sophisticated for maintenance and repairs, forcing professional mechanics, DIYers, and consumers alike to find easy-to-use tools for diagnosing their vehicles.

Many tools have already been developed to access these powerful on-board vehicle computers, but the Equus tool is particularly simple to use and surprisingly affordable. It is designed to be used by almost anyone, from the weekend mechanic to the ASE master technician. The 3130 CanOBD II/2 scanner is designed to retrieve diagnostic codes in all OBD II (1996 and newer). The scanner features a unique patented all-in-one screen display and LED display for quick OBD I/M emissions check, so you'll know if you're ready to pass those ever-increasingly stringent laws. Equus built the 3120 to display on-screen DTC definitions and user interfaces in English, Spanish, or French, and the trilingual language selection is accessed via a simple menu command. This device also stores diagnostic codes in a handy memory for off-car review and analysis. The 3120 is also equipped with the ability to connect to your PC. With the included cables and software you can connect the scanner to your computer to generate, print, and save detailed diagnostic reports, and even update the 3130 via the Internet.

The 3130 links to all OBD II protocols including CAN (Controller Area Network). The tool captures and displays freeze frame data that will help you pinpoint and troubleshoot any problem. This device is equipped to retrieve the following OBD II diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs): Generic Codes (P0, P2, P3, and U0) and Manufacturer Specific Codes (P1, P3, and U1). In addition, the tool provides live data (view, record, and playback live PCM data streams), bi-directional testing, vehicle ID capture, and O2 sensor results.
